PIR Security LightsThe PM recently announced he was considering continuing the daylight saving hour all year round and that this would save 1.14m tonnes of carbon emissions. Aside from the environmental benefits, how good would it be to leave work still with a little day light?
However, whatever time the sun goes down there will still be the same amount of darkness hours and crime will continue. Statistics suggest most property crime occurs between 1-3am, it will still be dark and we will still be asleep or maybe away from home during these times. Crime and the environment are both high on the political agenda and we are being encouraged to do everything we can to aid the government's objectives, protect our home and reduce our carbon footprint.
Can the two be combined inexpensively? Home security systems can be expensive but there are simple inexpensive options that may go some way to help secure your home, reduce carbon emissions and save you running costs.
Solar PIR lights technology has progressed over recent years and now with the combination of multiple LED bulbs giving more light, PIR motion sensors switching the light on only when activated giving longer battery life and relatively easy installation could this be an answer as a deterrent at least?

Solar Flood LightsOver the years security of our property has become more of an issue for all of us and while there are many expensive systems and devices we can buy to protect our homes there are also simple and effective things we can do to act as a deterrent to discourage criminals from targeting our property. PIR security lights have always been a benefit to have around our homes, not only as a deterrent to criminals but also for our own convenience, when we get home from a night out its nice to have the light come on as we pull in our drive.
PIR (passive infra-red) is a common function available on outdoor security lights that has been used for many years on both commercial and personal security systems and is now becoming common place on solar powered security lights. You may not have considered solar powered flood lights as a security aid before but there are many available and they are an inexpensive and easy to install option to the normal mains fed motion sensor security light.
You may question how effective solar powered flood lights would be as they are powered by battery charged from the sun's energy? After all we need to be sure they have enough power when they are needed. There are a few reasons why they can be effective, the simplest of which is that a PIR solar motion security light only come on when the beam is broken therefore the light isn't on all night using the stored energy. Also on many of the quality lights the solar panel is separate allowing it to be placed in the sunniest position even if the light is needed in a dark area.
